Section B – Row 1 – 16 – Bromfield/Paterson/Millington

Erected by Colonel STEPHEN BROMFIELD of Hassington Mains in memory of his ancestors and relatives.

STEPHEN BROMFIELD his father died in 1762.

MARGt.PATERSON his mother died in 1792.

ELLIOT BROMFIELD his sister died in 1790.

HARRAT MILLINGTON his wife died in 1797.

ELIZh. BROMFIELD his sister died 14th December 1819.

JNo. BROMFIELD his brother died 16th March 1821.

Colonel BROMFIELD who erected this monument died 31st May 1823 aged 83 years.

Col. BROMFIELD was a brave soldier and distinguished himself in the service of the King and Country in various parts of the world.

Also here is interred MARGARET BROMFIELD of Mayfield his sister who died 28th May 1829.

Section B – Row 1 – 17 – Illegible (latin inscription)

Flat stone with latin inscription: no name visible. To date we have cleared the flat stone of grass and recorded the following:-

VIR SINE HICO HIB SINE FASTHD.....

but there is a lot more to transcribe and we are waiting for a sunny day to read further

This headstone is lying flat on its face and words therefore cannot be read

Erected by JAMES STENHOUSE in memory of his daughter who died 26th May 1817 aged 10 months.

Also MARGARET STENHOUSE his daughter who died 23rd October 1831 aged 18 years.

Also the said JAMES STENHOUSE who died 1st April 1841 aged 71 years.

Also of MARGARET HISLOP his spouse who died 16th March 1856 aged 79 years.

This is a huge headstone with surrounds that are neglected

JOHN DICKSON of Antonshill died 15th August 1690 aged 75.

Mrs ELIZABETH KER his widow died 12th November 1691 aged 68.

JOHN DICKSON of Antonshill died 21st August 1789 aged 73

. Mrs KATHERINE HEPBURN his spouse died 21st July 1789 aged 71.

JOHN DICKSON of Antonshill cousin German of the late JOHN DICKSON died 1st November 1750 aged 72.

Mrs ISOBEL JAMIESON his widow died 12th February 1777 aged 76.

JAMES DICKSON of Antonshill died 10th April 1825 aged 84.

Mrs JEAN SANDILANDS DYSERT of Antonshill his wife died 15th December 1821 aged 85.

JEAN DICKSON of Antonshill died 12th September 1844 aged 70. She married General Sir MARTIN HUNTER of Medomsley Durham.

This is a white cross within the confinement of Row 1 - 19 headstone

Sacred the the memory of MATHEW DYSART HUNTER of Antonshill and Medomsley in the County of Durham born 11th September 1803 died 16th November 1867. Erected in affectionate remembrance by his widow ISABELLA DOROTHEA BUCKLE died 27th February 1903.

Tablestone but transcription very difficult to read

Here lies WALTER SCOTT tenant in Bankhead who died 18th September 1801 aged 57 (?) years.

Also MARY CROSBIE his spouse who died 1826 aged 77 years........ 

Section B – Row 2 – 2 – Dickson

Erected by ADAM DICKSON joiner west Leitholm in memory of JOHN DICKSON his son who died 19th April 1815 in the 12th year of his age.

The above ADAM DICKSON who died 17th November 1806 aged 86 years.

Reverse:

In memory of JOHN DICKSON joiner Leitholm who died March 1877 aged 82 years. Also CHRISTIAN his wife who died....

We need to scrape the moss from the later part of the headstone to read the inscription.

Erected by WILLIAM PARK Eccles in memory of ALEXANDER PARK his father who died at Bartlehill 10th November 1811 aged 79 years.

Also ELIZABETH CROW his mother died 10th April 1818 aged 86 years.

Also the said WILLIAM PARK who died 30th May 1842 aged 80 years.

Erected in memory of HELEN CORBET daughter of JAMES CORBET who died 15th October 1788 aged 18 years.

Also WILLIAM CORBET who died 30th December 1796 aged 18 years.

JOHN FRANKS Esq. Advocate Guild Brother of Edinburgh died 1690 aged 61 years.

AGNES his widow died 1700 aged 60 years.

WILLIAM FRANK of Boughtbridge died 1763 aged 69 years.

ISABELLA TROTTER his widow died 1780 aged 61 years.

CHARLES FRANK of Boughtbridge Captain in the Scots Brigade States of Holland died 1791 aged 48 years.

JAMES FRANK of Boughtbridge Captain in the Honourable East India Company died at Vellore 1797.

WILLIAM BROWN FRANK Colonel and Collector of New York. By his daughter died 1810 aged 75 years.

Erected by JAMES LOGAN of New Zealand his son who died at Hassington Mains 22nd August 1893 aged 77 years.

Also MARY JANE TURNBULL wife of ROBERT LOGAN of Hassington Mains who died 18th August 1935 aged 66 years.

Also their niece ELSPETH WOOD who died 27th February 1935 aged 26 years.

ROBERT LOGAN of Hassington Mains died 17th May 1943 aged 70. Also of their children who died young:

PATRICIA 19th March 1818 aged 8 years,

ANN 4th July 1821 aged 10 years.

JOHN ORD 3rd July 1822 aged 9 months.

JANET 7th August 1822 aged 10 years.

Also of their daughter AGNES  who died 31st August 1877 aged 52 years.

PATRICIA who died 12th November 1886 aged 68 years.

And of their son ROBERT who died at Ayton 20th March 1908 aged 79 years.

Also JANET daughter of PETER LOGAN Farmer Roxburgh Mill and wife of JAMES STRATHIE Bayshore USA and of Hassington Mains died 16th May 1939 aged 75.
