Magnificent monument to

Reverend ADAM THOMSON DD of the Bible Monopoly fame but unable to read text on marble slab. However, James Robson’s book of 1896 titled ‘Churches and Churchyards of Berwickshire’ records the very last paragraph of inscription on the white marble: “The great success of his career was the abolition of the Scottish Bible monopoly, along with what he did and suffered for the cheapening and circulation of the holy book”.

(This monument may have had a small enclosure at one time because there is a small cornerstone beside the monument).

The Rev ADAM THOMSON who was born in Coldstream in 1776 and ordained in March 1806 where after a faithful ministry of 65 years he died in 1861.
