Staff Sergeant William Thomson

Staff Sergeant William George Telfer Thomson, Advanced Motor Transport Workshops, Army Service Corps. He died on Active Service in Mesopotamia, aged 36, on the 20th July 1917. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of the late William and Christina Thomson of Old Bongate, Jedburgh and the husband of Catherine Thomson of Milnab Street, Crieff. He had served his apprenticeship as an engineer in Jedburgh and had enlisted in December 1914. He served at Gallipoli and Egypt and eventually Mesopotamia where he died from heat stroke. He isa buried in Baghdad ( North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq.
