Private James Thomson

Private James Rutherford Thomson, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed by shellfire in France, aged 21, on the 14th September 1915. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son nof the late James Thomson of the Caledonian Hotel, 10 Canongate, JHedburgh and Katherine Thomson of East Bank House, Hawick. He had worked as a butcher in Jedburgh before enlisting in August 1914. The Battalion held trenches in the Vermelles sector near Loos and on the 14th September he was wounded and died as a result of shellfire. He is buried in Saill-Labourse Communal Cemetery, France.
