Private Thomas Turnbull

Private Thomas Turnbull, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 31, on the 2nd August 1918. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of John and Janet Turnbull of Cornelius Close, Jedburgh and the husband of Elizabeth Turnbull of Lasswade, Midlothian. He had served his apprenticeship as a tailor in Jedburgh but was working in an Edinburgh hotel when he enlisted in August 1914. He had been wounded in February 1916. On 2nd August the Battalion was in front line trenches and suffered 6 fatalities through shellfire. He is buried in Caestre Military Cemetery, Nord, France.
