Private George Turnbull

Private George Innes Turnbull, 8th/10th ( Service ) Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in France, aged 32, on the 26th December 1916. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Robert and the late Isabella of Jedburgh and the husband of Janet Turnbull of 1 Queen Street, Jedburgh. He was a slater to trade and he had been working on Jedburgh Abbey when he enlisted in May 1916. He was posted to the 9th Gordons in France where he was transferred to the 8th/10th Battalion. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
