6th Engineer Officer Harold Walker

6th Engineer Officer Harold Richard Walker, Merchant Navy. He died at sea, aged 33, on the 1st November 1939. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of the late Annie and Alexander Walker of the Dispensary, Jedburgh and the husband of Barbara Walker of 48 Headrig, Jedburgh. He had served his apprenticeship as an engineer in Galashiels before going to sea. He was aboard the S.S. “British Strength”  and became ill whilst the ship, in convoy, was entering the English Channel. The vessel was a motor tanker of 7,100 tons. He was buried at sea.
