Corporal Samuel Wales, Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He died on Active Service in Algeria, aged 36, on the 27th August 1943. He had been born in Rutherglen and was the son of Charles and Jean Wales and the husband of Lily Wales of 10 Bongate Gardens, Jedburgh whom he had married in Jedburgh in 1930. Before enlisting in 1939 he had been in business as a coal merchant. He served as a transport driver and died in Algeria from multiple injuries sustained in a road accident. He is buried in La Reunion War Cemetery, Algeria where his Headstone is inscribed ” Sleep On, Beloved And Take Thy Rest They Will Miss You Most Who Loved You Best”.
