Private James Craig

Private James Anderson Craig, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was posted missing in Palestine, aged 23, on the 31st May 1917. He had been born in Sprouston,  Roxburgshire and was the son of Adam and Catherine Craig of Harlaw ( in Eccles Parish ). He is commemorated on the Jerusalem War Memorial. After the Second Battle of Gaza in April 1917 this was a relatively quiet period for the Battalion. Turns were taken in the front line and there were patrols to be undertaken. It was therefore possible that Private Craig was a casualty on one such patrol.
