Private John Cowe, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 24, on the 2nd May 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Hutton, Berwickshire and was the son of John and Janet Cowe of Hutton and Springwells, Eccles. He had enlisted in the 8th Seaforths and went to France in August 1915. He was wounded and upon recovery he was posted to the 7th Battalion. He is commemorated on the Arras, Memorial, Arras, France. The photos show troops during the Battle.
