Private John Anderson.

Private John Forrest Anderson, 3rd Cavalry Division Mechanical Transport, Army Service Corps. He died on Active Service, aged 25, from influenza on 31st October 1918 in the 4th General Hospital, Camiers, France. ( at this time the “Spanish Flu ” epidemic was sweeping the World and caused many more deaths than the War). He was the son of William and the late Margaret Anderson of The Hangingshaw, Yarrow and Curor Street, Selkirk and is buried in Etaples Military cemetery, Etaples, pas de Calais, France. He had been employed as an ironmonger when he enlisted in September 1914 and served throughout the War on the Western Front. The Mechanical Transport Companies were responsible for bring supplies from the base camps up to the front lines if necessary often under shellfire.
