Private James Struthers Ker, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in France on 31st March 1917 aged 20. He was the son of Peter and Helen Ker of Warrior’s Rest, Yarrow, Selkirkshire and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. At that time the Battalion was in the front line at Arras awaiting the start of the Battle of Arras which began on the 9th April and some casualties were suffered by sporadic shelling. ( This Battle saw the largest concentration of Scottish Units in the entire War ( 38 Battalions).
