Private James Gallon

Private James Gallon, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France, aged 26, on 3rd July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of William and Isabella Gallon of Weetwood, Wooler and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He had been born at Kimmerston and had enlisted in the 15th Battalion of the Fusiliers before being transferred into the 12th Battalion. The photos show troops on the Somme and the colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today.
