Private George Elliott

Private George Watson Elliot, 2nd/4th (  Territorial ) Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 29, on the 27th November 1917 during the Battle of third Ypres. He  had been born in Wooler and was the son of the late John and Jane Elliot of Church Street, Wooler. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Flanders, Belgium. The photos try to show the appalling condions of the battlefield where the incessant shelling had destroyed the fragile Flanders drainage systems.
