Lance Corporal Alexander Norman Robison, “C” Coy. 1st/7th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He died in France on 3rd May 1917 of wounds received in action during the Battle of Arras, aged 20. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Robison of ” Whitsun View “, Wooler and is buried in Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, Seine Maritime, France. He had joined the British Linen Bank aged 15 as a clerk and had enlisted on 20th November 1915 as soon as he was old enough. His Headstone is inscribed ” Son Of R & M Robison Wooler. To Dwell With Christ Is A Better Life”. The photograph shows a group of Highlanders checking a dugout in a captured German trench. The second photograph shows the Memorial raised to the 51st ( Highland ) Division of which the 7th Argylls were part. It overlooks “Y” Ravine on the Somme which was captured by the storming and capture of the strong German position of Beaumont Hamel in November 1916.
