Major Jack Elliot M.C.

Major Jack Elliot, M.C.  6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Germany on 18th February 1945 aged 24. He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Elliot of Wedderlie and Thirlestane, Lauder and is buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany. He had been educated at Loretto School, Musselburgh where he was a member of the O.T.C. He was then commissioned into the Territorial K.O.S.B and mobilised in September 1939. He had been wounded near Caen, Normandy in June 1944 and was awarded his Military Cross for his actions there. He fell during the Battle for Goch which was captured and cleared with 6 killed and 29 wounded. Major Elliot was the last but one of the Battalion key Officers called up in August 1939 and his death was a heavy loss. His Headstone is inscribed ” The Souls Of The Righteous Are In The Hands Of God. They Are In Peace”. The photographs show the Borderers in North West Europe 1944/1945.
