Lance Sergeant Robert Railston Taylor, 13th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France during the second day of the Battle of Loos on 26th September 1915 aged 23. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He was the son of Robert Taylor of Ulgham Grange Crossings, Morpeth, Northumberland and the late Elizabeth Taylor. The artist’s impression shows the grim reality of close quarter fighting at Loos and the photograph shows part of the battlefield looking towards the German lines where shells are bursting.
