Private Thomas Neilson

Private Thomas Neilson, 13th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died in France on 30th April 1917, aged 25, of wounds received in action during the Battle of Arras. He was the son of Mr and Mrs George Neilson of 52 Main Street, Tweedmouth and is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Pas de Calais, France. This cemetery was the site used by the 8th Casualty Clearing Station to cope with the casualties from the Battle. His Headstone is inscribed ” Asleep In Jesus Free From Pain Our Loss Though Great Was Heaven’s Gain”. The photograph shows British soldiers with a tank in the main street of a captured village near Arras.
