Rifleman Robert Turnbull, 16th Battalion, ( Queen’s Westminster Rifles ), London Regiment. He died of wounds in 1st Casualty Clearing Station in France on 6th November 1918, aged 33. ( Only 5 days before the War ended ). He was the son of Margaret and the late Robert Turnbull and the husband of Jane Turnbull of 26 Church Street, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is buried in Cambrai East Military Cemetery, Cambrai, Nord, France. He had originally enlisted in the Northern Cyclists Battalion in 1914 then transferred to the Tyneside Scottish then the London Regiment. His Headstone is inscribed ” For King And Country He Did His Best God Grant Him Eternal Rest”.
