Rifleman Robert Robison

Rifleman Robert Adam Watson Robison, “D” Coy. 16th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in action in France on 15th September 1916, aged 22, during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of Robert and Dorothy Robison of 3 Falloden Terrace, Tweedmouth and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. The autumn rains and the incessant shelling however turned the chalky ground of the region  into a glutinous quagmire making all movement very difficult as can be seen from the photographs. The colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today.
