Lance Corporal, Richard McAllister Richardson, “C” Coy.,1st Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in Mesapotamia on 7th January 1916, aged 20, in one of the attempts to relieve the garrison in the town of Kut-al-Amara which was besieged by Turkish forces. He was the son of Agnes White of Fishwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq. He fell in the action at Shaikh Said where despite failing to capture the position it was enough to make the Turks abandon the strong point the next day.
