Corporal Peter Paxton

Corporal Peter Paxton, 22nd (3rd Tyneside Scottish ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in Belgium on 17th October 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres and is buried in La Brique Military Cemetery, nr. Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Tweedmouth.  At that time the Battalion were holding front line trenches in the Salient and there was a continual loss of men through artillery fire. The photographs show the desolate state of the Flanders battlefield where the drainage systems had been destroyed by the incessant shellfire.
