Lance Corporal John Kincaid

Lance Corporal John Kincaid, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards. He was killed in action in France on 21st or 22nd December 1914, aged 24 and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. He was the son of the late Alex and Annie Kincaid and before enlisting as a Regular Soldier he had been employed as a bank clerk. He fell in the fighting near Givenchy where the Battalion was part of the force tasked to support Indian troops who were bearing the brunt of fierce German attacks. The battalion advanced over open ground in broad daylight and re established the positions but with 200 casualties of which 71 were fatal. The photos show troops near Ypres in late 1914.
