Sergeant William Curran

Sergeant William Curran, 27th ( 4th Tyneside Irish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France during the Battle of Arras on 28th April, 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He fell in the attack on Roeux which was only a qualified success and again casualties were high. 6 Officers and 151 Other Ranks were wounded or missing. He had been born in Durham and enlisted in Sunderland. The photos show troops during the Battle.
