Private Peter Simpson

Private Peter Simpson, 13th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died whilst a Prisoner of War in Germany on 15th July 1918, aged 30. He had been born in Edrom, Berwickshire and was the son of John and Elizabeth Simpson of Swinton and is buried in Berlin South West Cemetery. Before enlisting he had been employed as a gamekeeper and rabbit catcher  by Mr Askew of Ladykirk Estates. His Headstone is inscribed “Asleep in Jesus”. He had appealed against call up after conscription was introduced but was unsuccessful and was sent to the 13th R.S. He was captured during the German Spring Offensives and died in a Prisoner of War camp.
