Private Robert Jamieson

Private Robert Jamieson, 1st/7th (Territorial), Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He died in France, aged 32, of wounds suffered in the German Spring Offensive on the River Lys on the 22nd April 1918. He had been born at Legerwood and was the son of Charles and Margaret Jamieson of Ryslaw, Duns. He is buried in Lillers Communal Cemetery Extension, France. His Battalion was part of  the 51st (Highland) Division and after the War an impressive Memorial was raised in commemoration. It was erected overlooking “Y” Ravine in Newfoundland Park on the Somme where on the 13th November the Division had stormed the strong German defences in Beaumont Hamel. The other photos show Allied troops preparing to meet the advancing Germans.
