Private Oswald Sykes, 21st Battalion ( 2nd Tyneside Scottish ), Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed by shellfire in France on 24th February 1917, aged 26, and is buried in Fauberg D’Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Sykes of 16 West Street, Spittal. The Memorial has his Unit as N.C.B. which is the Northern Cyclists Battalion, a Territorial formation which frequently transferred men to the other Fusilier Battalions at the Front.
