Private George Richardson

Private George Richardson, 1st/6th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died in France in 13th Stationary Hospital on 15th May 1915 of wounds received in action, aged 34, during the Second Battle of Ypres. He was the only son of  Agnes  and the late Richardson of 149 Marine Terrace, Spittal.  In civilian life he had been a Dentist and had been born in Leeds. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” Only Son Of the Late Henry and Agnes Cowen Richardson of Berwick-On-Tweed “. The photograph shows the impressive Memorial raised to the fallen of the 50th ( Northumbrian ) Division of which the Battalion was part until July 1918 when it was reduced to Cadre. It was erected near the village of Weiltje in the Ypres Salient where nearby the Division had fought its first action of the War on 26th April 1915 only days after landing on the Continent.
