Trooper Adam Maben

Trooper Adam Herbertson Maben. ” J” Squadron, 1st Scottish Horse. He was killed in action at Gallipoli, aged 24, and is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey where his Headstone is inscribed ” Their Glory Shall Not Be Blotted Out”. He had been born in Southdean and was the son of William and Jeannie Maben of Bairnkine, Southdean. He had worked for a firm of solicitors in Jedburgh before taking up a post in Piedritas, Argentina. He returned home in November 1914 to enlist, going to Suvla Bay, Gallipoli as dismounted troops in September 1915. The photos show troops at Suvla.
