Private William Douglas

Private William Douglas, 2nd Battalion, Black Watch. He died on Active Service, aged 20, in Mesopotamia on the 14th December 1917. He had been born in Southdean and was the son of Tom and Agnes Douglas of Chesters, Southdean. Before enlisting he had been employed as a gamekeeper at Blackadder Mount, Edrom, Berwickshire. In Mesopotamia he contracted malaria and died in the 31st Stationary Hospital in Baghdad. He is buried in Baghdad ( North Gate ) War Cemetery, Iraq.
