Sergeant William Snowden

Sergeant William Snowden, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed on a Air Operation to Leuna, Saxony, with 103 Squadron R.A.F. on the 6th December 1944 aged 20. He was the son of Robert and Joan Snowden of 70 Scott Crescent, Selkirk and is buried in Berlin 1939-1945 Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” He Died And Lived For Freedom”. His Squadron was part of 1 Group Bomber Command and flew the Avro Lancaster from Elsam Wolds, Lincolnshire. His aircraft ( NG276 PM-E ) was on an operation to bomb the synthetic oil plant at Leuna near Leipzig when it was hit by flak and crashed near Merseberg, Germany with no survivors
