Second Lieutenant Robert Clapperton Mitchell, 7th ( Service ) Battalion , Cameron Highlanders. He died from wounds, aged 21, in France on the 27th July 1918 and is buried in Senlis French National Cemetery, France. He had been born in 1897 in Selkirk and was the son of William and Davina Mitchell of Meadow Cottage, Selkirk. Before enlisting in the Royal Scots he had been employed in the Selkirk Co-op. He was commissioned into the Camerons in June 1917. The photo shows a Cameron’s patrol in a ruined village.
