Sapper David Ormiston, 73rd Field Company, Royal Engineers. He was killed in action in France , aged 29, on the 26th September 1915 on the second day of the Battle of Loos. He had been born in Galashiels in 1886 and was the son of the late Janet and Charles Ormiston and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He had served his apprenticeship as a painter in Selkirk and resided in Scott’s Place in Selkirk when he enlisted. His Company was part of the 15th ( Scottish ) Division and landed in France in July 1915.
