Private Robert Stewart

Private Robert Stewart, 31st ( Alberta ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 34, on the 26th December 1915. He had been born in Selkirk in 1881 and was the son of James and Margaret Stewart of Halliday Park and 6 Ettrick Terrace, Selkirk. He had emigrated to Canada in around 1904 and was working near Wetaskiwin, Alberta when he enlisted in November 1914. He landed with his Battalion in France in May 1915 and is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. ( His brother Walter also fell – see above ).
