Private Robert Hall

Private Robert Baptie Hall, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He died on Active Service in Belgium, aged 38, on the 4th October 1918 during the” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Selkirk in 1879 and was the son of the late Helen Hall and William Hall of 20 Kilncroft, Selkirk. He was married to Mary Hall of 35 Caledonia Crescent, Edinburgh and is buried in Hagle Dump Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting he had been employed as a shopman in Edinburgh. He was with the Battalion Transport Section when he was struck by a truck and accidentally killed. The photographs show the Allied troops advancing after the retreating Germans during the last 100 days of the War.
