Private John Robertson

Private John Robertson, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France, aged 22, on the 6th October 1918 from wounds sustained during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Leith in 1896 and was the son of Andrew and Agnes Robertson of 10 Robertson’s Close, Selkirk. Before enlisting in June 1915 he had been employed by the Scottish Co-op in Selkirk. He had originally joined the 1st Battalion, K.O.S.B. at Gallipoli in October 1915 but at some stage he had transferred to the 2nd Battalion. He died from gas poisoning in the 2nd Canadian General Hospital at Le Treport and is buried in Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Son Of Andrew And Agnes Robertson, Selkirk”.
