Private John Buckham

Private John Affleck Buckham, 49th (Edmonton Regiment ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He died in Belgium from wounds on the 2nd May 1916 aged 26. He had been born in Hawick in 1890 and was the son of Gideon and Elizabeth Buckham of Calgary, Canada who had emigrated to Canada in 1895. He was an engineer to trade but was ranching when he enlisted in March 1915. He died in the 10th Casualty Clearing Station at Lijssenthoek and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium where his Headstone is inscribed ” Nobly He Lived Nobly He Died”.
