Private George Robert Douglas, 2nd Battalion, Cameronians ( Scottish Rifles ). He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 19, on the 13th August 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres. He had been born in Selkirk in 1898 and was the son of William and Fanny Douglas of Municipal Buildings, Selkirk and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting he had been employed as an apprentice clerk with the Scottish Co-operative Mill in Selkirk. The photos show troops during the early stages of the Battle.
