Private David Wilton, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in England on Service, aged 22, on the 1st November 1918. He had been born in Wishaw in 1896 and was the son of Margaret and the late James Wilton. By 1911 he was living in Selkirk with his Aunt and Uncle in 77 Forest Road, Selkirk. He had enlisted in June 1915 and fought with his Battalion at Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine before moving to France in April 1918 with the rest of the 52nd ( Lowland ) Division to help repulse the German Spring Offensives. He fell ill with pneumonia and was evacuated toi England where he died in the Whitecross Auxiliary Hospital in Warrington. He is buried in Selkirk Cemetery.
