Private David Tait

Private David Ballantyne Tait, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 22, on the 23rd July 1918. He had been born in Logie, Stirlingshire in 1895 and was the son of Thomas and Annie Tait of ” The Limes”, Anderson Road, Selkirk. ( His father was a senior partner in Messrs Tait Brothers, Selkirk ). He is buried in Raperie British Cemetery, Villemontoire, France where his headstone is inscribed ” With Christ”. Before enlisting he had been employed in munitions work. He fell in an attack towards Buzancy where the artillery barrage was ineffectual and little ground was gained with heavy casualties. 4 Officers and 96 Other Ranks were killed and 7 Officers and 214 Other Ranks were wounded.
