Private David Christie

Private David Christie, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in Egypt, aged 24, on the 1st December 1917. He was born in Selkirk in 1893 and was the son of the late Robert and Maggie Christie formerly of Robertson’s Close, Selkirk. He had been a Territorial in the K.O.S.B. and was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914. He served at Gallipoli, Egypt and later Palestine. He died in hospital in Alexandria, Egypt and is buried in Alexandria ( Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” Memory Ever Dear”. The battalion had been in action against the Turks on the 24th and again on the 28th November at El Jib and Suffa in Palestine and had suffered casualties so is probable he was wounded in one of these actions. The photos show Borderers in Palestine in late 1917.
