Private Charles Lawson

Private Charles Lawson, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in France, aged 19, on the 4th June 1916 and is buried in Fauberg D’ Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France. He had been born in Cluny, Aberdeenshire and was the son of James and Barbara Lawson of The Gardens, Hillside Tillypronie, Tarland, Aberdeenshire. He had been in service at Tillypronie House and was serving as a footman at Whitmuir Hall, Selkirk when he enlisted in March 1915. At that time of his death the Battalion were in trenches in the Arras Sector and suffered some 20 Other Rank casualties from sporadic shellfire. His Headstone is inscribed ” The Great Sacrifice “.
