Gunner Andrew Stewart, 12th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in Belgium, aged 37, on the 12th July 1917. He had been born in Melrose in 1880 and was the son of the late Thomas and Isabella Stewart of Forest Road, Selkirk. He was the husband of Georgina Stewart of 80 Thistle Street, Galashiels and is buried in Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting he had been employed as a gardener at Orchard Mains, Traquair, Peeblesshire. He was killed along with ten of his fellow gunners when a shell hit their dug out.
