Private William Cowe

Private William Cowe, 10th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France, aged 24, on the 27th June 1944 during the Normandy Campaign. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of William and the late Isabella Cowe of Ryslaw, Duns and Red Row, Aberlady, East Lothian. He is buried in St Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, Normandy, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Safe Is Your Refuge Sweet Is Your Rest We Miss You Most Who Loved You Best” His Battalion was part of the 15th ( Scottish) Division and he fell during “Operation Epsom” which was designed to outflank and seize the city of Caen.
