Private Henry Hunter

Private Henry Hunter, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in Palestine, aged 22, on the 15th December 1917. He had been born in Reston and was the son of William and the late Margaret Hunter of Heughhead, Reston and Kimmerghame Mains, Duns. He is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. He had been working at Heughhead farm when he enlisted in June 1915 and joined the Battalion at Gallipoli in November 1915. He then served in Egypt and Palestine. He may have been wounded in the fighting on the 28th November when the Battalion repulsed repeated Turkish assaults. 22 Other Ranks were wounded that day. His twin brother had already fallen at Gallipoli on the 12th July 1915, see above. The photos show Borderers in Palestine in late 1917.
