Private W.A.Spiden, 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He died of wounds in France on 13th May 1916, aged 29. He was the son of David and Ellen Spiden of Fishwick, Paxton and is buried in Bethune Cemetery, France. 8th Seaforths were part of the 15th ( Scottish ) Division. Before enlisting on 23rd December 1914 he had been employed as a ploughman at Camphill and had always shown his pair of plough horses at the Berwick May Horse procession.
