Fusilier John Mabon

Fusilier John Blair Mabon, 7th Battalion ,Northumberland Fusiliers, He was killed in France on 9th June 1940, aged 21, during the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from France.  He had been born in Newcastle and was the son of George and Jean Mabon of Berwick- upon- Tweed and the uncle of Robert Purves of Paxton and is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France. The Battlefield cross photograph was taken at St. Valery where Fusilier Mabon was killed. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Has Gone Home”. His Battalion was a machine gun Battalion and was attached to the 51st ( Highland ) Division.
