Private George Oliver Turnbull, 12th ( Service ) Battalion ,Royal Scots Fusiliers. He died of wounds in France in No.1 Australian Hospital on 30th August 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory ) after having been gassed. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Turnbull of Shidlaw Farm and is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France. He had served in Egypt originally and had been transferred to France in May 1918 to help stem the German advance. Before enlisting he had been employed on Shidlaw Farm. He had enlisted in April 1915 and had served in Egypt before his Battalion was transferred to the Western Front. The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final and decisive 100 days of the War.
