Flight Lieutenant Walter Clark

Flight Lieutenant Walter Alexander Graham Clark , Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was lost on Operations with 156 Squadron R.A.F. on 22nd November 1943, aged 32. He was the son of David and Mary Clark and the husband of Doris Irene Clark of Kilburn. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.  Before volunteering he had worked in the Borders for the British Linen Bank. 156 Squadron No 8 Group was one of the foundation Pathfinder Units and flew the Avro Lancaster B111 from R.A.F. Warboys.  He was lost on an Operation to Berlin when his aircraft was lost without trace. He had already completed over 30 operations. These Units marked the targets with different coloured Target Indicators for the Main Bomber Force following behind. During the course of the War the Squadron lost 180 Aircraft and 892 Crew. The Squadron motto was ” We Light The Way “.
