Private Andrew Minto, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France, aged 34, on 31st May 1917 of wounds received in action and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was born in Rulewater, Teviothead and was the son of Mary and the late Andrew of Morebattle.. Before enlisting in February 1915 he had been employed as a Hind at Gateshaw farm, Morebattle. He may have been wounded near Arras where the Battalion was holding trenches between Fresnoy Wood and Oppy. On the 7th May the Battalion was subjected to a heavy bombardment which caused casualties of 1 Officer and 20 Other Ranks killed and 1 Officer and 158 Other Ranks wounded. On the 12th near Oppy there was a further bombardment which caused a further 29 Other Ranks wounded.
